The Vintage Wren is a serial novel released in several chapter episodes.
Cassie Wren. Legal assistant. Convenience queen. Thrifter extraordinaire. If there was a "green police" she'd be a fugitive from eco-friendly justice.
But when a friend's teasing feels like a challenge, Cassie accepts it. The result? One year. Twelve months. Fifty-two weeks. Three hundred sixty-five days--of green.
It seemed simple enough. Cut back on paper plates, plastic forks, and straws. Easy peasy. But when her competitive side wars against her desire for convenience, Cassie finds it's not so easy to be "eco-friendly" and "Cassie-friendly."
Week 2 Reducing paper... CHECK! Cassie's feelin' confident. Well, until she goes out and discovers that even restaurants use more paper than she'd expected. Add in an accidental purchase, a plastic purge that she's still struggling with, and a shopping trip that could only be cured by the universal soother--ice cream--and week two is off to a rocky start.
Thankfully, her blog, as much as she resists it, provides a bit of catharsis. She rants, vents, and shouts her triumphs for the world--or at least fifty of her closest friends--to read and celebrate with her.
Or will they?.
Cassie's second week--plastic. After a week of exchanging paper choices for plastic ones--for "just one more week", Cassie is onto her next diversions. After all, she doesn't have to give up metal or glass yet! But finding solutions that don't involve plastic prove harder than she ever imagined.
Don't worry. She's found the perfect, aesthetically-pleasing, and planet-saving plan for enjoying plastic bottles forever!
The Vintage Wren. A serial novel released in fifty-two episodes (for obvious reasons).

As a big Havig fan, I knew that I would enjoy Vintage Wren, and I have, but it is my least favorite so far. The Vintage Wren is all about a "Queen of Convenience's" one year journey to be green. It is fresh, I have never read a book like it. But that is one of my favorite things about Havigs writings- she writes about things that are fresh or brings a fresh perspective to 'old' topics. Week 2 is all about not buying plastic and not using plastic. Cassie of course starts with the big ones- have you ever thought, really thought, about how much plastic we have and use! Eye opening, and very entertaining. This series is making me laugh out loud! The nice thing about Havig's serial novels is that you can try it for free and if you aren't a fan you aren't out an money. The other thing I love about these serial novels is that they are 'portion controlled' for me. I get a quick short read that helps me not neglect things that need to be done. =) Of course the other side of that coin is that you live in suspense until the next installment comes out.

The Vintage Wren Week 2 edition by Chautona Havig Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Enjoying this, nice companion to Diary of Decluttering Junkie
Chautona rocks! Another excellent story from a gifted storyteller.
Fun book especially if you want to make a recycling difference!
I love Cassie! Can't wait for the next week to be released!
This story is funny and obsessive. Her thought process is all over the place. She totally argues with herself. Its funny because I often think like her.
I'm loving these episodes of Vintage Wren. Now we are tackling plastic and all of the adventures that Cassie has to go through in order to try and save the world of most of the plastic that she encounters while grocery shopping, dining out and storing her food. I can't wait for the next one..I think it's "recycling glass". These are really making me think about my own home and what we use and how we use it. A great read!
Sometimes I wish I hadn't set myself the goal of never reading the next book in a series before I review the one before. It's taken me awhile to get this review written, and meanwhile Cassie is moving on to reducing in another area—and I can't read it yet! Week 2 is about plastic. Use less plastic, don't buy plastic. How hard can that be? Well, almost everything comes in plastic. And last week, she gave up paper. Now she can't even buy the cheapest meal at the restaurant—it comes in a plastic basket lined with PAPER! What is she to do? Meanwhile, her friends encourage her and give her advice, and her man friend who isn't anything special in her life—she repeats this fact over and over—helps her out, too. I am loving watching Cassie learn to be more conscious of waste, and seeing the way she relates to those around her. Now I can read Week 3!
